ABOUT OUR SLINGS
What makes a sling strong? The strength of a sling is found in the stitching along the pocket where all the stress is placed. Patio Furniture Supplies sews each pocket with a double fold, clean edge, and those three layers make the pocket stronger. Adding to our pockets’ strength and durability is Tenara® thread, which is made to withstand conditions outdoors. It is not affected by UV sunlight, cleaning agents, chemicals, saltwater or extreme weather, and it will not deteriorate from exposure to the elements. Why would it? Tenara is made by GORE®, whose jackets, caps and gloves are more widely known as Gore-Tex. Note that while Tenara® thread is not affected by cleaning agents and chemicals, concentrated mixtures of harsh products can damage sling fabric.
GRADE A vs. GRADE B FABRICS
Patio Furniture Supplies offers sling and umbrella fabrics in the same Grade A and Grade B method in which you selected the fabric for your high-end furniture. All of Patio Furniture Supplies’ fabrics, whether Grade A or Grade B, are of high quality and are made in the U.S. specifically for outdoor use on chaise lounges, dining, high back and adjustable chairs, swivel rockers, ottomans and umbrellas.
The difference in Grade A and Grade B is the cost of producing the fabric -- not the quality of the fabric. Production costs are affected by the type of thread(s) the fabric is made from, the number of threads per inch, number of colors in the fabric and any pattern woven into the fabric. For example, the GRL White and ECL Off White are Grade A fabrics and receive our highest durability rating. Fabrics with a wicker appearance have the same durability rating but are Grade B.
Grades A and B are comprised of fabrics made by Phifer Incorporated and Twitchell Corporation. The fabrics are typically manufactured from vinyl-coated polyester, pvc-coated polyester or with an Olefin blend. Because a fabric’s construction gives it particular characteristics and because computer monitors are notoriously inaccurate for color, Patio Furniture Supplies recommends you order samples of fabrics before ordering slings or premium umbrellas.
Phifer and Twitchell, both based in Alabama, make fabrics for outdoor patio furniture manufacturers including Brown Jordan, LLoyd Flanders, Tropitone, Winston and Woodard.
YOU CAN DO IT
Our How To Remove & Install Slings instructions with photos will show you the process. And the Dual Stretcher Bar Tool (PFS-TOOL) will make any sling installation easier, especially wicker fabrics. You may also need a 3/16 Allen Key For A Drill (PFS-053). Both of these tools can be found on our website in the Tools & Bolts category.
