How To Measure Slings

This measuring method does not work for all constructions/styles of patio furniture including some welded styles so email photos first.

Slings change shape over time so it’s unwise to measure an old sling to determine the size of the replacement.

Patio Furniture Supplies makes what is called a “tight sling.” The width of the new sling will be the same as the distance between the grooves of the sling rails. The fabric that goes into the rails has to be stretched in.

• Do not order if your slings attach at the top and bottom.
• Do not order if bolts, screws or rivets go through your slings.
• Do not order if your sling rails have grooves on the backs or sides of the rail.
• Do not order if your furniture uses body-glove slings that slide over the frame.

Before you measure
1. Upload photos of the front, side and backside of your furniture, or email the photos to sales@patiofurnituresupplies.com. And we’ll confirm we make your slings.

2. Click Swatchbook to see fabrics, and order fabric samples before ordering slings.

3. Tighten all bolts, and measure as closely to the bolts as possible.

Measure the width
4. Do not measure the old sling. The most accurate measurement is taken where the sling rail is secured (either bolted or welded) to the frame, not the end of the sling rails. It is ideal if the sling is still installed.

5. If the sling is installed: Measure the visible part of the seat sling starting on the left side (Figure 1) to where it disappears into the sling rail on the right side (Figure 2).

6. If the sling is not installed: Measure from the outside of the groove on the left sling rail to the outside of the groove on the right sling rail.

7. Repeat to measure the chair back. The seat and back measurements are usually the same, but sometimes they’re different.

8. Round up if necessary. In the photos below, the sling measures 20" wide. If the width is not 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" or a whole inch, round up. For example, if the width is 19 1/8", order 19 1/4".

Figure 1. Measure where the sling rails are
attached to the frame, not at the end of the
 sling rails.
Start measuring on the left edge
of the visible part of the sling.

Figure 2. Measure the visible part of the
sling from one sling rail to the opposite rail.
The width of this sling is 20".

Measure the length
9. Measure the sling rail, not the sling. Measure the sling rail from one end to the other end following the rail’s contour (Figure 3.) Having someone help you hold the tape measure around the curves can help in measuring accurately.

10. Do not include the sling rail end caps in the measurement.

11. If the length is not 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" or whole inch, round up. For example, if the length is 41 3/8", order 41 1/2".
