How To Measure Vinyl Straps

Vinyl strap is cut 10% shorter than the width of the chair and stretches when installed. As the strap is stretched, its width shrinks about a quarter-inch. When ordering vinyl strap, select a measurement one-quarter inch wider than currently on the furniture.

Step 1: Measure Width

Measure the width of the strap in the middle (Figure 1), not on the ends where it is attached to the frame. If it measures approximately 1 3/4", order 2" vinyl strap. If it measures approximately 1 1/4", order 1 1/2" vinyl strap.

Step 2A: Measure Length for Single-Wrap Method

Place the tape measure at one hole and measure over the frame to the hole on the opposite bar following the placement of the strap. (Figure 2)

Step 2B:
Measure Length for Double-Wrap Method

Place the tape measure at one hole and wrap the tape around the bar once (Figure 3). Let out the tape to the other side and wrap once around that bar following the placement of the strap.

Step 2C:
Measure Length for Clip Method

If using metal clips, place the tape measure where the strap attaches to the clip on one bar. Measure to the corresponding clip on the opposite bar.

Step 3: Calculate the Length to Cut Each Strap

Reduce the length of the strap measurement by 7%.
23" length x .93 = 21.39" length to cut the strap
29" length x .93 = 26.97" length to cut the strap
Multiply the “length to cut the strap" by the number of straps for the total amount of vinyl strap to order. Length accounts for position of holes; do not add to compensate.

PRE-CUT STRAPS: If ordering pre-cut straps and the length to cut the strap is not a half inch or whole inch, round up. For example, if your calculation is 20.7", order pre-cut length of 21". When ordering pre-cut straps, enter the measurement for the cut length of the strap, not the distance from hole to hole.

Selecting a Vinyl Color

Vinyl strap is available in assorted colors and widths as well as 50-, 100- and 200-foot rolls and pre-cut/hole punched. Please go to Colors for availability. Because computer monitors are notoriously inaccurate for color, Patio Furniture Supplies recommends you order color samples before ordering vinyl rolls or pre-cut straps.
